#1 Post by troy » Thu Jan 10, 2019 12:11 pm

Can anyone help me out with measurements for military hood latches and cleats ,maybe a measurement from the front and side panel joints of the fender and from the front and edge of the hood , thanks Troy

Hi Troy,
What Land-rover are we talking about S 1,2,3 (Standard or Deluxe hood) or a Defender?

Question, why do you want these hood latches?

I ended up putting a military engine cooler in for the 2.5 diesel, or in the middle of doing that , with that installed .there is no way the hood latch is going in there with the cooler , could of went another route I guess but iam commited now . Also using the military straps and staples for the spare , basically putting a S3 military hood on a 2a. I could go by some pics and guess but getting them as close as they should be would be nice.

My reasoning is similar. Have a very tight fit for the rad & fan in front of my engine so I've pushed it tight to the front panel. Hood latch interferes.

I retro-fitted a set of military hood latches onto a civilian Defender hood and it was a straight forward drill-and-bolt install. There are lots of images on the internet that will give you the approximate location for the latches and catches. The things thing to keep in mind are access to the nuts on the back side (leave enough room to get a wrench in there) and ensure that there is a bit of tension on the spring-loaded handle when it is fully engaged plus there is enough travel on the spring to allow the handle to extend beyond the edge of the catch to allow you to engage/disengage it. Here's a picture of what it looks like: https://flic.kr/p/QFqS84
