Disco Lift.......
Hi Andrew,
It is possible to do a simple lift on a Disco with aftermarket suspension.
You can get 1-2" just from swapping springs & shocks to something like the Old Man Emu set up.
If you go to the "Technical Articles" on this RoverLanders home page you will see a step-by-step artical by Stuart installing OME gear to his 97 Disco.
You can get more height by adding spacers / body lifts etc... but I will let others who have done this give you the details (Dave, Don?)
Welcome & Good luck with your new Rover

I did spring spacers on my Series II Discovery because the current springs appeared to be in pretty firm shape yet, and it was quite inexpensive. A set of 4 2 inch spacers off of eBay ( http://stores.ebay.com/TODDCO-SUSPENSIONS ) cost me $150 US. The truck needed new shocks anyway, which I've purchased, the only thing to be aware of is that with the spacers you require stock length front shocks and 2" extended rear shocks. The rear extended shocks only come from Old Man Emu, through Wise Owl/Rover Park Boys, among other suppliers.
Down the road a year or two, I'll likely go to heavier rated springs, but I don't have a winch or heavy-duty bumpers so the stock springs will suffice until then. And the handling with the spring spacers hasn't had any negative effect as far as I can tell.
Don did a body lift with spacers, rather than spring spacers, but we'll let him tell you about that...

Lift
Thanks for the input guys!
Turns out the parkade wont let me lift the discoas i only have and 1inch or so to play with.
Went to North shore off road today and picked up 4 pro comp shocks will replace the old ones on the weekend.
NEXT QUESTION!
As I only have a little hight to play with i was thinking a tire upgrade. The ones on the disco are brand new Nexen crap.
I was thinking of 255/70/16? Brand?
cheers

Regarding postong photos, first read the paragraph in the FAQ about it: http://forums.bcnewsgroup.com/roverland ... fee49e6#24
Basically you have to have your own web space to host your photo. If you have Telus or shaw high speed, this comes with your account...
Then you have to go to the image in your web browser and view JUST the picture, not an html page. This is usually done by selecting the image you want and right clicking and there should be an option to view image in new window. If you're doing it right, the photo will show in the top left corner of the new window, and the address will end with .jpg rather than the usual .html. Copy this address to your clipboard.
Then, edit your post on the forum, type "[img]"%20or%20click%20the%20button,%20paste%20your%20address,%20and%20to%20finish,%20type%20"[/img]" that should do it.
Also, please keep the width of the photos to no more that 1024 pixels as a courtesy to other who might not have as large a screen or as fast a connection as yours....
You should also become familar with BBCode as it is something of a web standard for posting on forums:

Thanks guys !
Im in my 4th week of owning a 96 Disco and im the second owner, the disco is in new shape, my wife loves it and the seats are so mutch better than our exploer.
I will install the front shocks this weekend and i will put new tire on the Disco this coming week as i have found in canada the 245/75/16 is a 10 ply tire and close to 31 inches wide.
Cheers

Talking recently with a tire guy of many years experience he mentioned that there were often 6 ply and 10 ply or various ratings of tires available in the same size and manufacture here in Canada.
He pointed out the Goodyear Wrangler M/T for example, that several of the popular sizes were available in either D or E rating. So, while there may be a 10 ply available as, perhaps, an E rating, I personally would be inclined to see if there was a lower rated tire of the same size available. The Disco is not a 1 ton truck and its unlikely that you'll ever put the weight into it that the tire is rated for. Also, on the other hand, if you have too high of rating/ply count, your sidewall will be super strong, but may not be flexible enough to either give you a good ride on the road, or the pliability off the road.
Just my two bits worth...

Good points !
Today being Saturday i managed to install the front shocks what a bitch.
Ended up cutting the bottom nuts off because of lack of space.
Also found that my front springs are shot. the passenger side i can get a set of water pump plyers between the coils and the drivers i can not evan get my little finger in between the coils.
The rears dont look too bad lots of room between the coils, if i replace all the spring im pritty sure i wont make in my under ground parking.
Im putting new tires on the Disco on monday either 245/75/16 or 255/70/16 both tires will have a 6 ply rating toss up between BF ALTERRAINS/DUNLOP RVXT AND THE COOPER SST.
leaning towards the cooper as its a more off road tire with out going to the mudders.
Disco feels alot more stable with the new shocks and rides ruffer.
Cheers
guys
P.S i will set up a car domain or sumthing and post pics.

Yes, the Disco II definitely makes the job of removing front shocks less painful, with a cross-bar and two bolts instead of the nut/stud method of lower attachment. Never did like those, especially in a tight working area. Turns what should be an easy job into a PIA. Thankfully you won't have to replace them often.
You may find a set of better front springs at Pro Truck wreckers in Abbotsford as they have several Discovery Series 1s. Just be sure to have proof of what new ones will cost with you so they don't try to charge you too much... At least then you'll have a bit better springs and still be able to get into the car park.
