Lake2Lake 4-Day Off-Road Adventure 5th-8th Sept
Its time for another epic 4 day off-road adventure into the wilderness of BC (Summer will soon be gone before we know it!).
This is the rough outline (below), so book the days off with the "Boss", tune up those Land Rovers and get that adventurous smile on!
Thursday 5th - Day #1 Meeting in at the Whatcom Road A&W for breakfast (Exit 95 off H-way #1) 9.30am Thursday morning. Fill up with fuel before breakfast. 10am departure heading through Harrison Hot Springs, then up the East side of Harrison Lake, across & over the Kookpiki Pass up to Nahatlatch Lakes, Grizzly Falls (camping near Nahatlatch Lakes).
Friday 6th - Day #2 9am departure, Traversing Nahatlatch Lakes up to the Fire Lookout at 6000ft, a brief stop at Boston Bar Gas Station (around Noon ) while we cross the highway, then onto the beautiful Cabin Lake (camping at Cabin Lake).
Saturday 7th - Day #3 9am Depart Cabin Lake heading east over to Murray Lakes, crossing the Coq onto Champion FSR, onto the Whipsaw trail, then Wells Lake (camping at BFG Lake)
Sunday 8th - Day #4 9am depart camp site, complete the Whipsaw Trail, Home on Highway #3
For those who can only do 3 days (Fri to Sun) we will have a meeting spot Friday (around noon) at Boston Bar Gas Station as we cross the highway between Nahatlatch Valley & Cabin Lake. Note- Wilderness camping, no amenities,(a couple of outhouses!) bring everything you need for the four days.
Drivers must be Rover-Landers Members - More details will be added to this post soon, let us know if you in?
Cheers
Andy

I will bring the P38 for more stomach churning action (hope not). Are we meeting at Rocko's restaurant again?

Re: Lake2Lake Off-Road Adventure 5th-8th September
This will be the second event I wanted to do that I will miss. This time it is tickets to Giselle on Sept the 6th. I cannot get out of that as I escorting my wife and some of her ballet friends.
101 lament, reading the latest "From the President-Summer 2019" and seeing Andy's comments, I would really like to make an event again, I missed the earlier one as I got a tip on five 900X16 XZL and two 900X16 XL tyres for sale in Alberta. Note that I had purchased five new 101 steel rims from Aart about 15 years ago. It was a Tuesday afternoon that I had contact and made a deal on them and much to Janice's chagrin, I headed to Alberta to pick them up. The XL had rims on them of some kind, I will post a picture and see if anybody can Identify them, Aart thinks they are IVECO rims with six studs and they are very heavy.
I had left Vancouver in the sun and warmth to find Alberta soggy and cool. Please note the comments on carrying spare parts in the presidents comments. I always carry a spare's box of essentials. All the important stuff, all the belts, spanners, some spark plugs, U-joints, etc.
On my way back to BC, I had a plan to stop at some of my old haunts. As stated it was wet, I had seven tyres in the back now and no tent (remember tent next time) I went up to Crescent Spur just north of Valemount to scout out a route to Kakwa. The ranger I talked to up there said that there were numerous washouts and trees down. I backtracked to Hinton then north to Grande Cache. Rain and more rain. I decided to head down to Hinton after some back road scouting, at 11pm headed down a steep hill the engine hesitated and then caught again. I stopped, took the dog house off, checked the wiring, no problem, got to Hinton around midnight, found a hotel. Next morning I could not start the 101. I traced everything back. No spark, note, pack multimeter next time. I figured the electronic ignition module had packed it in. Raining like crazy, called the tow truck, they put me into a bay, everything was full, they backed a truck out for me, dropped everything and got a guy to help me. Called Aart and got his input (he thought it was the module) it turned out that the ign wire had somehow made contact with paint on the side and was not giving a good connection. Got a wire extension and made a new contact point, away she went! I did not have any wire in my driveaway box. Lucky that I was in Hinton when it happened. Note, carry some wire from now on. The Alberta boys were great!
I had discussed the Kakwa route for a club outing with Andy a while back. After my scout around there I feel it might be a tad bit far to get there and back, although it would be interesting to include some Valemount back routes with this and it might be worth it.
I am very happy with my new set of tyres mounted on new steel rims and my two extra XL tyres.
One other point, Andy mentioned electronic magazine. I have been getting an electronic 101 Club called 'Six Stud" for quite a while now, at least for the last five years now, instead of the old paper mailed copy. I much prefer the e version as I can bring up the articles any time on line or on file. It saves the 101 Club a lot of money as well. There is also an archive that the 101 Club has of all the back issues. Great stuff as all the suggestions and fixes that members have written in about are all there, pictures and stick diagrams included. It might be worthwhile to have a discussion on going this way at the next club meeting.
Sorry about being long winded, I hope I will make the next event.
Have a good safe trip and I look forward to living vicariously through the pictures to follow!
Cheers,
Neil

Hi Andy,
I am having a very busy summer this year, feeling very sad just missed hurley drive and can't make whipsaw.. Definitely not ignoring "Rover Landers" for sure missed great adventures and company...
Late next week I am going to Alberta for my MS mountain biking tour for charity, if anyone interested here is the link to sponsor me http://mssoc.convio.net/goto/demren
Nothing major is booked for the rest of the year hoping there will be more events. Have a safe trip with lost of fun, can't wait to see great pictures and videos!

Ok, weather is looking good 8) ... possibility of light rain on Sunday
So eight of us will all be meeting at Whatcom Road A&W Thursday 9.30am for breakfast (keep in mind this is a weekday commute so your drive out to the Valley may take a bit longer!)
Bill & Chris will be meeting us in Boston Bar around noonish, Richard may meet us at Cabin Lake (not 100% sure yet).
See you all out there ....

No worries Richard, thanks for the update.
For all those who are coming along, a reminder it will get quite cold at mountain elevation at night, pack that extra sleeping bag!

Well I guess I am the first to post a followup. Is everyone else too bushed? Anyway, I had a great time and the P38 did way better than I imagined. Thanks to Andy for organizing the trip and thanks to eveyone for the good company. Look forward to more trips next year.

Gordon

Yes, another wonderful adventure, a great group, "lucky eleven" started from Harrison Lake on day 1 and emerged near Princeton 4 days later
Really enjoyed this rugged journey through the beautiful wilderness of British Columbia, thanks to all those that came along and shared the journey.
Cheers
