1993 Range Rover Classic 4.2 High Idle FIXED!
I just bought a 'mechanics' special 94 Range Rover Classic 4.2. UPDATE: FIXED..... was Idle Air Control Valve....
I got it started but Idle is high, around 2000 RPMS.
Anyone have some suggestions????

Re: 1994 Range Rover Classic fuel pump not working
Loosen the fuel cap and try again. I had a 93 RRC with a similar issue. The cap wouldn't breath and the tank breather apparently was clogged. This caused an intermittent vacuum in the plastic tank that collapsed it and prevented the pump from pulling fuel. Seriously. Was a pain that took weeks and weeks to sort out and left me stranded at the side of the road several times.

Re: 1993 Range Rover Classic fuel pump not working
I tried the fuel cap... didn't work.
Here's what I've done so far. Previous owner replaced the fuel pump.
Checked fuel filter... clear.
bypassed inertia switch
checked ignition switch
checked automatic shifter mechanism neutral/park switch
checked fuel pump grounds.
checked wiring below radiator overflow bottle
checked wires to coil
both fuel pump relay and Ecu relay have power...
I can squirt starter fluid into intake and it will run for a couple seconds.
I can jump the fuel pump with a hot wire to make it work, but it will not run.... seems like injectors aren't opening.
Leaning towards an ECU problem but not sure if that's the problem.
The Rover apparently ran when it was parked.... then sat for 5 years until I bought it.
Any ideas?????
Help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 1993 Range Rover Classic fuel pump not working
Is the 14CUX ECM getting the signal from the negative side of the coil. The ignition circuit is obviously good, as it runs on starting fluid, but its easy for the signal from the coil to the ECM to break or get left off. Another possibility is bad feeds/grounds at the ECM or even a bad ECM. I have a few spare ones if needed. Where is the car, if its local to me, I could take a look.

I picked up a used ECM and a couple extra fuel pump relays. Plugged them in and it started!!
Thanks for the assistance everyone!

Re: 1993 Range Rover Classic Running but High Idle
I got the Range Rover Classic 4.2 Running after not being started since 2014. I let it idle for a while, changed distributer cap and rotor as well as a new air filter. Still idling around 2000 RPMS. Anyone have any ideas what I should check?
I drove it around a little and it seems to drive pretty well... idle is high only in park and neutral
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: 1993 Range Rover Classic 4.2 High Idle
Check on your idle air control valve.
Mine was broken for a while and it caused my 3.9L to idle high when in park and neutral but not in gear for some reason.

It was the Idle air control valve. She's running well now.
Next issue is parasitic battery drain!!

Re battery drain - check your heated windscreen. They are infamous for causing battery drain.
