Get yourself something like this or any motorcycle spring activated pull switch, bolt it to a plate and bend a spring to hook to the reverse adjuster plate to trigger it when you shift into reverse:

In a pinch that would work so would the lucas brake light switch. Was hoping to not do any fabricating just slip it in wire it up.
The one I have works and will go back in. Trying to find a spare. Hopfully while I stil can. There are a few for sale in england still new in the box. Have family back there ny get some one to source it and send it in the post. Will keep your solution in mind it may come in handy. Thanks for your input all input is valued

The parts suppliers in England that I've used will send it in the post. For small parts like that it only costs something like £5.
Eg Rimmer Brothers, Paddock Spares, LandRover Direct.
