X-Brake?

#1 Post by RamblerRob » Sat Jul 11, 2020 8:33 pm

I've got a new transfer case with no parking brake on it. Wondering if i should spring for an x-brake setup or just source a used drum

Guess it depends on how much you want to spend. The x brake is nice but I think it’s too expensive for something that just holds your truck still. I’ll have a look at what I’ve got for parking brake parts, pretty sure I have an original setup.

If you look at princess auto and are handy with building things, you can build this setup for around 200.00.

The drum brakes work better.

I was not debating which one works better. I built one with princess auto parts for my old Land Cruiser, worked way better than the driveline drum parking brake.

The drum brake does not work better. The stock design is barely adequate when it is brand new. I built my own and it works great, but I wouldn't recommend making it out of princess auto parts. I used a wilwood caliper and a disk off a subaru justy. If I was to do it again I'd get the x-brake.

Forgot about my parts pile.. Lol... I have a seemingly intact drum brake... The retaining screw was stripped so had to drill it out... Kinda thinking this should be replaced with a hex head screw...
Otherwise i should be good to go... Budget is starting to get thin so not sure the x brake is worth it.
