Re: Gearboxes
What year 292 straight 6 do you have in there? They can make over 150hp which I do believe would be a bit much for the old series gearbox. So I would definitely upgrade. An NV4500 sounds like a good way to go.

Re: Gearboxes
A 3500 would be a LOT easier. The 450 is big and making room is tough. The other option is a short R380 and LT230 as there are full kits for that.

Re: Gearboxes
Thanks guys I think my HP is 160
No work on the head tho.I will research those gearbox models, the only
Reason I thought of the4500 is that it has over drive 5th. The adaptor to the rover transfer case is now us$500plus plus still have track down clutch bell housing and throwout. Might be a good installation for a 402 tho I have one I want to rebuild next ,to keep the front prop shaft long enough has the engine almost in the cab , with a 4500 you could move the engine12ins ahead and still have a longer front shaft. Anyway cheers ill do some research.

Re: Gearboxes
I had the 292 in my 109 NADA, it ate gearboxes on a regular basis. The Chevy 250 is a much better choice of motor, the 292 is what i call a poor man's diesel, with lot's of torque thanks to it's long stroke.

Re: Gearboxes
Do you already have upgraded diff's and axles? I think they are the weakest point of the Series drive train.
