Good rock slider info?

Does anyone have any good ideas or info on making rock sliders for the sides of a military 90? I'm having a go at it this weekend along with making up a rear mount to hold an extra fuel tank in the NAS location. Combined with the side tank I should have 110L of diesel on board for those long trips :)

On that subject... any idea on protecting the side tank would be good. The rear tank will be protected by a 1/4" steel cradle/skid plate so it will be safe.

I've made a couple of sets of sliders for my trucks. The series has thick wall 1x2 standing on edge, which is pretty strong. I just mounted the front to the main bulkhead bolt mounts. And built a mount out of angle iron for the rear that uses the back mountings of the side fuel tank.

On the Disco, I used thick wall 2x3, laid flat, as there is a much deeper overhang from chassis sill edge to door edge. I removed the plastic factory ones, laid on a strip of 12 guage by 4" sheet metal, and drilled the same holes as the plastic strips used, only right through to the inside of the sill, then braced the 2x3 into place, test opened and closed the doors, and tack welded it in place. Then removed, welded it properly and bolted it on with shiny new bolts and nuts. I didn't get fancy, as if you look close my sliders are straight but the bodywork curves up about 1/4" at each end. Why they did this, who knows?

I am in the middle of a set of rock sliders for my RRC, I will take some photos of the process & share them.
I picked up the 2 lengths of steel for $40 from a scrap metal place in Richmond, so its on budget so far!!

Kris has a tried & tested set for a 90 (see photo) & Dave has made a couple of good sets.

Hey, nice looking sliders.

Best just to paint them, then as they get scratched up you will just need to touch up.

They will scoop up mud with the ends open & it will be a bitch to get it out. So best seal the ends before playing in the mud!
