Here are the facts....
1998 D1 converted to 300Tdi
Driving home and she just stalls, in a intersection left turn lane... F'n hate that!
Pushed off road, 10 people drove by 2 stopped to push!
Engine would turn over but no start.
the only reason a 300 stops running is the fuel shut off valve...
grabbed some wire, cut the wire to the fuel shutoff valve and hard wired to the battery.
started like a champ and drove home.
Turned off key, engine still runs... popped the hood and pulled the wire.
Had lunch, then looked at truck...
Checked every fuse, from in side under the steering wheel to under the bonnet, all good.
Re wired the fuel cut off and tried to start the truck... no turn over! grrr.
closed the hood and all doors and tried the key code in the door(no working remotes). Look for 5 seconds, unlock once, lock 5 times(from 12 o'clock to 9 o'clock), unlock once, lock 5 times, unlock.... <-- repeated several times.
Nothing...
So the question is why did the fuel shutoff lose power and why now is the starter not engaging?
I don't think it was a loose wire on the shutoff, it seemed solid and when I wired it to the battery I didn't pull the blade connect off I just twisted them togeter.
The lose of power to the shutoff makes me think there is more to this then the immobilizer.
Or did turning off key and then pulling the kludged wire to the shutoff freak out the immobilizer and the shutoff valve is a separate issue?
Thoughts?
Why can't I just drive a nice normal boring car... sigh.
Thanks in advance for your thoughts and prayers! lol

Re: D1 immobilizer?
Okay, not a ton of traction on this post...
Let me ask another question, does the immobilizer also kill the fuel or does it just prevent the starter from working?
My current thought is that maybe it got grumpy while driving and turned off the fuel but didn't freak out the starter but once I got home it completely locked up?
Thoughts?

Sorry Andrew, I’m definitely not a diesel expert. Hopefully you get something figured out. You’ve got a few great projects on the go.

Re: D1 immobilizer?
Since it is a conversion the answer to your question depends as how the conversion was performed. You won't have 300TDI wiring.
Is it an auto? Then the most likely cause is the park switch.

She's an auto, I'll look into the park switch! Didn't think of that.
Also found this link.

and it covers everything... except the part switch! Try the simple things before ripping apart your dash!
I am considering bypassing the whole schwack of over complicated electricals and running the ignition wires around the stupid thing... But I'd need to consider how messy of a kludge that would be... Wiring is an art and I most definitely am a hack at it...
The spider system seems to be a Rube Goldberg machine just to start your truck...
