Both skylights not closing on ‘97 D1

#1 Post by JoJo the Giraffe » Thu Feb 10, 2022 8:35 am

At the same time, both were opened the other day, and even those they move front and back, neither close. I cleaned the front and rear rocker switches, tracks, pulled and reinstalled fuse. An Allen key 3mm does not manually close the roofs. Faulty sunroof ECU or child safety switch? If the switch is engage, you cannot close the sunroofs. Any ideas?

Before you take too much apart I would try cleaning the tracks up best you can, often crud over 10-15 years gets all pushed down one end of the tracks and prevent the sunroof totally closing. You will have to get creative and get something to poke, scrape dig away into the track the best you can.
After you cleaned it the best you can, then spray some silicone lubricant on the tracks. If you get a better operation than before then you have probably found the issue.
let us know how it goes?

cheers

I had to remove the motors from mine and manually close with a screwdriver. Also, lube the hell out of the actuator cables.

Good News. It was not the track, nor the ECU, or motors. There is a angled guide with a roller on each side that brings or guiders the window down, and one was either worn or got stuck. I noticed this when another set of eyes were looking at the rollers. Contrary to pushing down, a gentle lift up on the suspected roller finished the sequence. I would love to take a picture of the roller, but for the time being my sunroofs are closed due to coming rains. So try lifting up your sunroof if this arises.
