Any recommended LR mechanics on the island?
As the title says, or indeed if there's anyone else who knows their way around discovery's like the back of their hands?
I just recently acquired a discovery 2 2004, I'd be interested to have someone who really knows these machines to give it a look over and probably point out a long list of things I could or should fix ha. Whilst I'm not too bad on the tools I'd happily pay a Land Rover Guru to check it over or some beers.
I'm based in Nanaimo. New to the forum so hi! Up for some steady adventuring in the local area too.
Thanks!
Duncan

You can start with this website as well https://landroverforums.com/forum/discovery-ii-18/ there is some solid information on there.
6 things to do right off
Finally these need regular maintenance nothing terrible, check your transfer case, coolant levels and regular oil changes about 4000 miles (6000Km).
They are pretty solid otherwise, just remember it is 18 years old stuff is going to break but I would say 85-90% of the work you can do yourself.

6 things to do right off
- Have the front drive shaft checked for wear, any competent driveshaft shop can do that. If it lets go it can take out your transmission.
Get a 327 ODB adaptor and Torque for your cell phone and monitor your actual running temps - the dash a gauge is functionally an idiot light
Diffs, transfer case get a fluid change done, I run 75/140 Amsoil synthetic. But any good grade gear oil will work
Exercise your Hi/Low CDL lever at least once every couple of months - it will get really sticky otherwise
Check the oil weight and brand Rover V8's are not 5/anything engines. 10/40 is pretty solid year round choice here in BC. Ideally you want a good ZDDP level around 1200. Royal Purple HPS has it but there are other options. Most British guys use 20/50 synthetic.
Full cooling system check. pressure test, and check the fan clutch and fan

There are a couple of shops on the mid-island.
Mark's Import Auto in Nanaimo (I had good success with him and a D2 a few years back)
Sussex Auto in Coombs
And there is Tony (on the forum) who is very knowledgeable as well.
Regards, Rob

Supposedly Marigold Auto Service on Burnside works on them. No experience with them so can’t say if they are tip top … or tip not.
