Looking for 16 x 5.5 rims, preferrably tubless

#1 Post by takhini » Sun Oct 23, 2022 12:07 am

I have a 63 IIa 88 with 5" wide rims and am finding it very difficult to find off-road tires to fit. I would like to replace my wheels with the slightly wider 5.5" rims, so that I can comfortably mount 215/80R/16 tires. I had a look in the 'Vehicles and Parts For Sale' posts - if there were any there I missed them.

Here’s a link to the various sized rims available for Land Rovers. You can get the NRC7578 new from most parts suppliers I believe.
You can fit up to 235/85/16 tubeless tires to 5.5 series rims, there are tens of thousands of trucks running these tires on these rims around the world and I’ve never heard of an issue with the rims unless they were damaged or rusty.
You may find some shops will not want to mount tubeless tires to these rims but most shops will.

Hi Matt
That is a good comparative/informative diagram regarding LR steel wheels.
In my research I have found that changing wheel size from the OEM sizing may have an effect on wheel
stud/lug nut compatibility. A cautious note.

All that being said I am still searching for a set of 4 steel wheels for a 1959 LR LWB stn wgn
original stock code 272309....as per your diagram.
