Tex Magna-Lite indicator switch

#1 Post by BrianTAb » Tue Feb 07, 2023 4:24 pm

Hi, first post to the forum, not new to rovers though. Long time owner of a '71 Canadian spec SIIA 88"
Looking for guidance on Tex Magna-lite indicator switch. I'm having intermittent functioning, based on what I've come across from a UK website I think it is conducting between contacts across the bakelite within the sealed internal switch. Anyone have any experience with this - I'm looking to repair/refurbish if possible, or alternatively looking for a good used replacement or pointing in the right direction to anyone that may be able to refurbish my existing unit.
Thanks, Brian

Hi Brian, welcome to the Rover-Landers Forum.

Do you know if its the Indicator switch for sure. Have you already ruled out all the other components / connections in the circuit?
Although they do wear out, its quite unusual for them to fail unless they have had a very hard life.

Cheers
Andy

Hi Brian,

I’ve rebuilt quite a few of these switches. There’s not much to them inside. The selector switch may just need cleaning out, they can get gummed up over time. I’m in Victoria not sure where you’re located? but if you’re not comfortable opening up the switch I can have a look at it for you.

Thanks for the quick responses.
Andy - I'm pretty sure it's the switch - I installed a used spare that I have kicking around and it activates the turn signal lights fine (so the wiring is good) but it does not illuminate the turn signal light on the indicator switch. I'd like to get the original one working properly if possible so that I have the visual reminder that the signals are on.
Mepham55 - I'm located in Calgary, but I am actually heading out to Victoria for Feb. 18 (to visit my son at U.Vic). If I make no progress in the next week or so it would be fantastic to bring it over and have you take a look, thanks!
