Another dumb alternator question

#1 Post by Canadman » Wed Aug 06, 2025 3:37 pm

Purchased an alternator for my series 2a and have the bracket on but the alternator doesn't fit the bracket snugly as the Pic shows. The gaps on either side of the alternator where it bolts on are quite a bit larger than the opening on the bracket. I purchased what I thought was the correct alternator and I'm pretty sure the bracket is the correct one. What am I missing???

Hi Canadman, as you tighten the rear bolt that collar snugs up to the back of the bracket I believe.

A little hard to tell what the bracket looks like from the photos but I believe that it was a 2.5 na diesel bracket that was on the engine

It is very clearly the wrong size.

What alternator did you buy?

I bought the Lucas alternator from 3 Brothers. Assumed it was the correct one as its listed as a correct size for the 2.25l engine. Any idea what alternator I SHOULD be looking for?

I believe the bracket mounting width should be 80 mm and the alternator a few mm wider. Measure both and report back.

You need to measure the outside of the bracket. The alternator goes on the outside.

Look like it fits to me. Your first picture is misleading.

There's a 3" distance between the outsides of the bracket and over 3 1/2" gap between brackets on the alternator. Waybtoo.much of a gap.

Umm. No.

3-1/8” and 3-3/8”. The sliding collar takes up the 1/4”.
