Hi, can you please tell me what is involved in transferring a 1997 discovery SE engine and gearbox/transfer case, into a 93 range rover classic LWB.
the range rover currently has a 4.2 in it.
what do i need from the discovery, ( computer, guages, etc..)?
what is the difference between these two engines? specifications?
thanks,
Reza

Hi Reza,
Hardly worth it!!
The entire fuel injection system is different and requires many more inputs which would not be worth the swap.
Besides there is not much advantage, the engine is smaller 3.9 versus your 4.2.
The best options are to use the existing fuel injection system and stick with/rebuild your 4.2 or upgrade to a 4.6.
Andrew has put a 4.6 into his RR.
Later,
Don

fair enough,
I am just trying to work with what i have access to, my engine is tired and transfercase on the way out and i found a good deal on a disco that i can part ou the rest of. maybe i will wait for another RR to come up for parts or as you said wait for a 4.6.
are the 4.6 common? probably more pricey then a 3.9 or 4.2 eh?
cheers,
Reza

Engine Swap
Hi Reza....
Don MacDonald forgot to mention that he has a 4.2 for sale....in some circles the '93 4.2 is preferred to the 4.6. I was going to buy it but have bought a 300TDi to put in my RR.
Good Luck...
