Dave,
What are you putting in the truck? (Besides something that burns
diesel...)

I have a good running 2.25 gas Land Rover engine for sale. It can be
seen running, as well as test driven, in my 88" Series IIa. It will
be available anytime after Founder's Day, January 21, 2006.
The engine was rebuilt in 2001, including rings, bearings, balancing
to the bottom end, new lifters, hardened exhaust valves and seats and
a full valve grind. Compression is approx. 7.5:1, and it burns
midgrade fuel. The engine also includes a Weber 2 barrel progressive
carb (including electric choke), K&N filter, additional 2 bbl
manifold, recent Lucas replacement distributor, recent ignition coil,
80 amp alternator, oil filter adapter and a brand new fuel pump
installed about 20 minutes ago (now about a month). In other words,
this is a complete unit, ready to run.
The engine starts right up, hot or cold, and idles evenly. It can
even be hand cranked cold. It is a strong puller, closely competing
with V8s off-road, recently at the Northwest Challenge in Washington
State, where it was the only 4 cylinder truck competing. It has been
recently tuned up and passed aircare this past spring.
The only thing I would suggest be done to the engine while it is out
is renewing gaskets and seals as required, since it has those pesky
oil leaks typical of Rover engines. (I recently renewed the valve
cover gasket and opened up the breather hoses to a larger diameter
and solved almost all of the leaks)
I have decided to go to a diesel in the 88 inch -- my winter project
for this year, so this gas engine is coming available. I am looking
for $900 or best offer. (Price reduced to $750 as of December 28th)
Let me know if you want to arrange to see it running. Dave Webber,
have you found an engine yet?
thanks, Dave

I am looking for some seats for my 1958 S1 109' pick up. I have the
3 metal frames for
reupholstering but would prefer to begin with a good second hand 3-set.
I have a 2nd set of axels from the sister S1 109' for sale or trade
for some other required
parts.
Eric - thanks for taking on the repair of my windshield wiper
motors. Any updates ?
Many thanks to all.

Back at you Kerry! Merry Christmas and God Bless! Live every day as
if it is
your last and you are sure to have a good year. It is getting better
too as
you mention, you don't have to teach your daughter anything anymore. The
hard part starts for you though. You have to unlearn everything you ever
knew about just about everything because she is going to re-teach you
everything, the way things are made, and done, now that there are new
laws,
new methods and new scientific findings, proving or disproving
everything
you have ever known. I've gone through the same thing with David. I'm
much
smarter now that he has re-taught me most of what I knew before. He's
19 now
and running out of things to teach me, just in time for his younger
brother
to take over re-teaching me everything David already re-taught me.
Wishing everyone on this site a Merry Christmas

To All;
Hope this missive finds you all well.
Seasonal wishes
and all that. I'm ensconced in my house with kids and wife plus
extras (friend of mine), a running Dakar in the driveway, and no bill-
collectors at the door just yet. In short, all is well. Even got to
do a little work this afternoon, installing a secondary ignition key,
since the original will cave at the sight of a nail file and is
mostly just for show (There! I said it! The secrets's out!). Took
a couple of blissful hours of just fiddlin' around outside to do it,
and filled the gaping hole from a previous ignition switch at the
same time. Ahhh! Time for a wobbly pop! Daughter turned 18 today,
officially knows everything so I don't have to tell her a thing
anymore. Glad THAT'S over with. Next order of business on the '59
is the leaks out of the front left swivel ball housing. Any
suggestions on where to start? It manifests by pouring all over my
brake shoes on that side and streaming all over my white wheel like a
kind of radial pinstriping, but only on the one wheel. Looks sorta
punk, maybe I'll leave it. I've been informed that I'm NOT getting
G.P.S. for Christmas this year, so anybody that does can just piss
off. Geocaching will just have to wait for another year, is all.
Other than that, I'm ready for the snow and ready for a new year,
hope it knocks the shit out of the old one. Here's a toast to it,
sure you've heard it, it's one of my favourites; Dance as if

Merry Christmas to Ray and the RoverParkBoys, Hope its not to cold up
there, it went down to 15C here last night, had to put a sweat shirt
on to go outside this morning...the old Rover is still running strong.
Only one break down in 20 years, the steering box, about 5 years ago.
My son an I were walking around the village one day, there was an old
Chev van about 65, sitting on its side in a goat correl, my son looked
at the steering box and said dad lets put that in the Land Rover. So
we did, it took two days, never steered so good. A little South
African engineering No...... Sure could use some new springs, maybe if
someone is coming down to Mexico they could bring me a set of those
new high tec. ones..Cheers.....Robin and little Robin..

Thanks for the response...i live on 965 Aros Rd 2nd drive way on the
left, just turn at the B&B sign and then you will see my drive way
markers. It needs a new gearbox, i know that for sure and hopefully
with your knowledge you can maybe see what else i am up against.
Give me a call if you can make it.
p.s. Pete 1969 11A, not the Pete 1965 11A. That Pete is popping
round on Sunday to check things out. I know him from his kennel that
we board our dog at.

If it got as far as Ladysmith I could pick it up from there

Thanks Don,
Alan provided spanking new pins (2) for the shaft and a new(ish) good
shape
brass bushing (the round thing) as all mine were worn out. There is
almost
no slop in the linkage down there. The actual pedal tower linkage is
a bit
sloppy so I'm wondering if I'm not getting a full sweep of the master
piston...?
I've also set the length of the slave cylinder push rod as per the
specs in
the Green Bible.
...and the system has been blead to death so there is no air in the
lines.
Paul.

Paul, I recently went through a similar thing with my series II. The
clutch seemed to be less and less effective until one day, going down
the highway, (don't you know,)the pedal went halfway down and then
went hard, like a jammed linkage or the something. I found the single
pin (I looked at the 2 series IIA that I have out back and they both
have two pins through it) that joins the actuating lever to the actual
throw-out fork shaft, where it passes through the bell housing, was
broken. A lot of the torque of the shaft was lost in torquing the
shaft 'til it reached the broken piece still stuck in there. So , have
a look there before you start pulling fenders off and whatnot.
Good luck
Don

Hi All,
Thought I should check in after a few months of silence.
Sold my 110 last month. :-( Nice chap from Winnipeg bought it and
drove it
back home to MB in one weekend. I'll miss it!
Trying to get my SII 88 back on the road now. I've had a clutch
problem for
the last little bit. The clutch wouldn't disengage enough to get
into gear.
I could start it in gear, holding down the pedal and it had enough
slip to
drive around, but I was unable to get back into gear once stopped and in
neutral. There was some fluid seepage from the Master so I rebuilt
that
using a kit that I had on the shelf. Stopped the leak, but it still
didn't
function properly. There was a lot of wear in the linkage so Alan from
Roverworks sent me a newer tight linkage setup, including new pins,
(bonus
is that it is the newer 'hydrostatic' self adjusting setup.) which
improved
the motions, but STILL no disengaging!
So now my thoughts are to start replacing hydraulic components
starting with
the master cylinder (which is not showing signs of leaking). Does
anyone
have any thoughts on what else to look at. Is there anything inside
the
bell housing that would wear / break and cause only partial clutch
action?
On a tangent, the only functional difference between the new
'hydrostatic
self adjusting' slave cylinder / linkage set up and the old manual
adjusting
SII setup is the abscence of the return spring (the cylinder is the
same) .
Wouldn't removing the return spring from the older system 'convert'
it to a
hydrostatic setup? Just curiouse...
Paul Quin

John,
After seven years of being married to her and thousands of hours of her
volunteering for various wild life rescue foundations I can assure you I
have had more wounded critters in my land rover than you have had hot
meals.
I have helped her with trumpeter swans, foxes, predatory birds, fawns,
skunks, and now a seal. Its all part of the adventure and gives you a
chance
to get the rover off road. The seal was dodgy as he was not happy about
being stuffed in a land rover and I'm sure you and your rover friends
can
appreciate the damage he could have done if he had gotten a hold of me.
There are times when you have to do a cost, gain analysis and that was
certainly one of them. How many injured animals have you and your rover
friends rescued? So yes I was "speaking with tongue in cheek", and
actions
speak louder than sermons from the soap box.
Dave

Rover Works B.C. Ltd is now the sole organizer of the early 2006
Marsland Chassis importation. Due to organizational problems there will
be a delay till January for the shipment. However, this may allow for
the building of some 80 and 107 frames which could be shipped at the
same time. The current prices as previously quoted are good thru Dec
15th after which there will be a price increase. Deposits are required
with each order. Please call for more details....
Also, we have sold the first lot of New, complete, Santana Gear boxes
for S11-111 but will be ordering again in January. These are on a first
come first served basis and are limited by supply.

Subject: [vanislelandrovernetwork] Unique Seal Problem
Reply-To: vanislelandrovernetwork[*]yahoogroups.com
The most unique land rover seal problem yet. My wife, the devout
animal lover and saviour of all injured creatures had to save this
150 lb harbour seal that was injured on the beach. The 110 was used
to transport the pungent beast from Tofino to Port Alberni where we
unloaded the mass of blubber into a waiting animal rescue vehicle. I
will say the coil sprung 110 had even better road manners with the
extra weight but it wasn’t worth putting up with the smell and
having to drive with the windows cracked open. A forty cent bullet
would have fixed the problem but it made her happy and is another
good rover story.

Subject: [vanislelandrovernetwork] Roof On!!
Reply-To: vanislelandrovernetwork[*]yahoogroups.com
Got my sides and roof lofted in position tonight. Whoop Whoop.
Couldn't believe the holes in the OLD defender roof matched up with the
holes in the 109 sides and the sides matched up with the new defender
tub!! Kinda cool if you ask me. She'll never be a show queen but the
road is getting closer.
Cheers
