D110 suspension and tires
Hi guys,
It's time to get a set of springs and a new set of tires for the D110SW and I have a few questions. I'm thinking OME medium springs, has anyone used them? How much lift did you get? Did the ride change significantly? I will likely add a winch and will only really load the truck occasionally so are the heavy springs too much?
Opinions on 285/75's vs 255/85's? Will the 285's fit with wolf wheels or should I stick with the 255's?
Thanks,
Pete

Probably 1.5" or so depending on the condition of the current springs. They will be stiffer. OME springs are stiff by design. It depends on your personal taste and intended use.
IMO, I prefer the 285/75/16. It fits without mods and looks the right size for the vehicle. They are certainly better off road and the wider stance protects the boddy better. Some people prefer the "traditional" Land Rover narrow tire look of the 255s....
BTW, what engine as amount of power is important in this decision? Wider tires need more power, which is why Rovers traditionally had narrow tire (pissy little engines).

Hi Pete,
Bernie just put the HD OME springs on his 110. Gave the truck a full 2" more lift despite the advertised height. He likes them and says the stability if vastly improved. I know you've seen his truck but just to remind you of how it looks with the new springs, check out the photos at the snowflake chase.

Hey Pete
The new heavy duty springs are great, the ride has improved maybe a little stiffer ride and better overall control on the highway. :D The old springs were worn out and the truck was floaty :? on the road, I have not yet had a chance to go and do some serious off roading :( so I cant comment on the flexing ablity. I installed the heavy duty springs because I knew that I was going to put the diesel engine in :P and with the roof top tent being carried all summer as well as all shit I seem to put on the truck and exrtras.
The tires that I am running with are bf goodrich mud terain ta

Hi Bernie
First, thanks for the reminder about the meeting this week. I don't know why, but I was thinking it was next week and probably would have missed it...
Also, thanks for the info about your springs and tires. I already ordered a set of medium springs and shocks but if you'll have your truck on Thursday, I'd like to have a closer look. I finally got my fuel tank and new rear cross member finished so I'll bring my truck to compare.
Regards,
Pete
