North Okanagan Run - its coming up soon!

#1 Post by DaveB » Wed Mar 21, 2007 7:48 pm

April 6 - 8, 2007 (Easter)

Get your Land Rover dusted off and lubed up from it's long winters nap and join us for Easter at the Rover Ranch, Armstrong, BC.

Camping will be on site in the coulee of the ranch. Portapotty provided.

You can arrive Thursday evening or Friday morning, or if you can't make it then let me know and arrive later as the base will be our place.

1829 Pleasant Valley Road,
Armstrong, BC

Directions:

From Lower Mainland. Drive to Kamloops on Hwy 1, followed by the Coquihalla. Drive east, beyond Kamloops until you get to the junction of Hwy 1 & Hwy 97. Turn south onto Hwy 97. Follow Hwy 97 all the way through Monte Lake, Westwold, Falkland, and finally down into the Okanagan Valley. When you come to the junction of Hwy 97 & 97a, turn left, towards Armstrong. (not at the earlier Armstrong sign, just out of Falkland) Drive for just over 7 KM and then turn left off the highway onto Pleasant Valley Road. Our house (the Rover Ranch ;-) ) is situated on the left 3.5 KM down Pleasant Valley Road. It has a white board fence and a big Land Rover sign on the front of the shop.

From points East, turn onto Hwy 97a at Sicamous and follow it to and then past Armstong. Aproximately 3 KM past Armstrong, you will see a yellow mustang on the side of the road. Turn right at this road and follow it until it ends, about 2 KM. Turn right again and our home is about 200 metres from the corner.

Note, it is about 4.5 hours at the speed limit from Mt. Lehman Rd., Abbotsford, to our home. Also, note, if you are coming in from Kamloops/Falkland there is a sign about 15 KM east of Falkland that points to Armstrong. You are best to ignore that sign and stay on the highway, as its much faster.

Friday 1 PM: Local recon run in the hills between here and SilverStar, about 3 hours.

Saturday all day: Depart 9:30 AM and loop around to the west, over several ranges, and up Mt. Tuktakamen lookout. Much of our run will be on just-thawed (or maybe partially covered) forest access roads, that were used by snowmobiles up until the last 2 weeks. BE PREPARED FOR MUD!! We should return by 4:00 PM.

Saturday Dinner: 6:00 PM Pamela and I would like you to join us for an Easter Dinner on Saturday evening. We will provide turkey, ham and other yummies. feel free to bring some other pot-luck items along. Email Pamela hoofandpaw [at] sunwave.net ahead of time if you can.

Sunday: Depart 10:00 AM, all camping gear packed, and explore Hunters Range, the plateau between here, Sicamous, Mabel Lake and Revelstoke. This area is used as snowmobile trails in winter and off-roading in the summer.

Departure from here will be back to the highway and you can head home. I estimate we will be done by 1 PM and its 4-5 hours drive home.

Please let us know if you plan on attending, and also if you intend to bring along a dog(s).

thanks, Dave & Pamela

Looking good folks. So far about 10 trucks, counting a few locals.

Is there a spot where some of you are meeting to drive together or is everyone coming on their own?

Bright and sunny today, although a bit crisp overnight. Forecast is for up to 20° on the weekend.

See you Thursday.

Hey Dave, we'll be coming up late Thursday so we'll probaly stay in Armstrong that night and then come in first thing on Friday to set up camp if that is OK. Anything we can bring? See you all soon.

I'm looking forward to you all arriving. Andrew & I have been working our asses off redoing the floors in the house this week, so the first person that arrives gets us off the hook from doing any more work!
