Camping Trip out to Conkle Lake (August), anyone interested?

#1 Post by archaeology_student » Fri Jun 15, 2007 1:05 pm

Hi,

I am planning a camping trip out to Conkle lake provincial park, which is way up in the Kootenay Boundary country, about 10 minutes before Rock Creek, and 25km up a logging road to the site. You gain about 1000 feet going up the logging road to get to the site, and it is a fun trip, and the final elevation is about 3000ft.

The lake only allows boats with motors of less than 10hp, and is about a 2km strech which is great for fishing. It has a nice sandy beach with lots of room, and the campsite has a ranger on hand for emergencies and security.

Osoyoos is about 50 minutes away (depending how long it takes to get to the highway) from the site, and once on the highway about 25 minutes. Oliver and Penticton aren't that far, and there is a lot to explore, including the White Lake Radio Observatory. Lets not forget the wineries as well, or Rock Creek or Greenwood.

I am reserving a group site, and would like to know if any of the RoverLanders would like to join the group? It is a family trip, so it is child friendly, and the lake is spectacular! I am planning it for the second week of August after the long weekend (Aug 12 - 19). So far I have 9 people, and I am always looking for more.

The cost will be $70 per night (total, break that between 10 people and it's $7 per person) for the group campsite, and can accomodate 40 people (20 adults & 20 kids). I'd like to do a couple of nights, and if anyone wishes more nights, they can always stay after the group has left.

I have an online picasa album with some shots of the lake, if you are curious please take a look: Conkle Lake album

PM, or post here if you are interested :)

Happy Rovering!

Still have a few spots if anyone is interested. Either way, there is only 15 sleeps till the trip. Lots of roads for wheeling, and a few wine tours planned.

White Lake Radio observatory expeditions planned, and maybe, just maybe some archaeological sites to be shown ;)
