Took the beastie out to flex a bit

#1 Post by polvoson » Mon Aug 06, 2007 11:10 pm

So since I have had the Discovery for almost two weeks and nothing seemed to be braking I figured it was time to see how it did off road.

I have wheeled many trucks in the past and have to say that this was a pleasant surprise. I went up to Eagle Ridge in Coquitlam. It is close to my house and I know the area well so I knew I would not get myself in too much trouble. I got in there no problem and drove around a bit to get a feel for the truck, then I put it in 4 low and really had some fun. For a large and fairly heavy vehicle I found it to be extremely well balanced. Off camber slopes and steep inclines and hills were very predictable. My shocks are toast so the rolly polly bumps were a nuisance but other that that the truck performed flawlessly. I was very surprised by the traction holding ability on steep hills. The wheels just never seemed to slip. Over all a very good first outing. I even got a scratch. :~)

Hey Pete

If you Land Rover guys consider that abuse, then I am selling the thing...

Well she says she wants to learn how to drive off road, I think this is the perfect truck for her to learn on.
So far no issues, thanks for the tips when I called you.
BTW, I have a verbal deal for a 1300L, I am picking it up at NWMF. Its is a 1987 with OM 366A and fast axles, ex BW unit. I can't wait.
You are going to be getting lots of questions...
