Sunday drive on the 14th?

Victor and I are thinking of going for an Off-road drive this Sunday. The weatherman changed his mind about the weekend forcast so it sounds like a good day. The current plan is to head up Copper Canyon and maybe go to Holy Oak Lake (or somewhere else?). Easy drive, leave mid morning and back mid-late afternoon.

It's a GO for tomorrow folks. Oliver, meet at my place at 0930. Rob, meet us at the Chemainus gate at the start of the "Haul Road" just west of the highway. It is about 1 km or less from the traffic lights on the highway at Mac & Blo haul road. Bring chairs and a lunch. Victor says he can make coffee or tea.

About 106 km gate to gate. It was a very nice drive. Nothing challenging, just some great fall scenery. Interesting that at the higher elevations, the deciduous trees are still green. The road follows the Chemainus river inland and crosses it a few times. We went up to Reinhart Lake for lunch then drove a few miles up Mount Whimper, tallest mountain in Canada---------------south of the 49th parallel.

There were a number of people fishing at the lake and we saw some being caught. We also had a herd of Roosevelt Elk cross the road right in front of us. It was neat watching the BIG bull standing guard till all the cows were in the bush before he left the road to herd them on. Everyone was fumbling with digital cameras trying to get them out and warmed up before the herd was gone. No-one was successful at getting a photo.

10 of us enjoyed the day (that would be the whole crew by the way) in three vehicles. Victor Gerwin's 109 Dormobile with Margaret and I as passengers, Chris Anton's Rangie with Rob Hoban as passenger, and Oliver Balme with his wife Shelly, his two kids and a friend in their Camel 110 (and 2 dogs).
