This is a stretch but looking for a early series 2 / 2a square top rad , one without cracked tanks , the 3 I've taken to the rad shop were nfg , all had broken tanks the guy at the rad shop said he could solder up the cracks but they would just break again . Thanks Troy

I have a couple of the series 2 radiators....one is perfect as I had a shop test it and the other was from a truck with 45 k.
Can you send me a picture of what a square top looks like?

There are 2 types of “flat top” rads. The early series 2 trucks had a similar(same) design as the series one trucks, as in the top picture. The later series 2a trucks still had a flat top but the ends were angled and the pressing in the top panel run longwise as in picture 2. Both suffer from stress cracks and from people kneeling in them.

sounds like the cracking is a common thing with these early rads ? Just concerned about the aftermarket rads that are available any feedback from anyone running them ?

After trying 2 flat top rads in my 1966 truck I gave up and switched to a new series three style rad. It’s been fine for the last 8 years. Keep in mind if you use the later rad, you’ll also need the series 3 top and bottom hoses and a series 3 rad shroud as well.

I phoned Jeremy yesterday he has 2 types one with plastic tanks and a copper one which one did you end up buying ? Do you know if the inlet and outlet of the S3 rads are smaller diameter than the S2 rads?

I had a 1962 flat top rad with square corners, recored this summer on Vancouver Island (one rad shop left on the Island) he made one good rad out of two damaged ones with a all new heavy duty (4 row) core $ 600.00.
It is a speciality repair now, rad shops used to be all over the place. I wanted to keep my rover original with the proper style rad.

These old rads are okay but you need a 9 lb. cap Maximum. 5 lbs would be even better. Lots of times the caps get swapped to 12-14 lb caps like modern vehicles these old rads can not take that pressure.
