Fender Flare rivets

#1 Post by Whistler110 » Tue Nov 29, 2005 10:36 am

The rivets holding my fender flares on are corroded and falling off, gotta love the salt they use around here.

After doing some reading on the web it seems that most people have plastic rivets holding them on but mine seemed to be aluminum. I've thrown c-clips and screws on for now but will have to replace them before they rust. I'm wondering what others have or have tried and your experiences.

The plastic fender flares or wheel arch extensions on 110's and 90's are always held on by small plastic buttons with a push through center post which spreads two wings thereby jamming in the body hole. These buttons are available both from landrover and from places that have those racks of small packaged clips like at Lordco or KMS tools. They are pricey but available. I have found that plastic zap straps work well and are cheap.

They must not be aluminum rivets if they are falling off :D . As Bill says, the genuine items are plastic doehickeys. Any other plastic retainer that you like would work. Or a sheet metal screw. Whatever.....

Personally, I only use what I can find cheap and local wherever possible....

HaHa, I wasn't very clear, they are aluminum rivets but they had steel washers that have rusted away.

With the speed that things seem to rust around here I think plastic will be the best route.

Thanks.
