Capstan winch drive
Looking for a capstan winch drive or pieces or some measurements so I can build one . Looking for I believe the later type with that has the square drive and the release mechanism that mounts to the chassis . Thanks

Are you driving capstan from front of engine or off PTO?
I Googled Land Rover Capstan winch drive and came up with some information. This is 1 example of drive from front of engine.

PTO involves a long drive shaft but would engage from drives seat. Drive from engine requires engagement/ disengagement by lever, usually up beside capstan. Engine must be stopped to engage and probably best for disengagement too, though maybe not necessary.
Capstan could also by hydraulic powered though more complicated what with how pump is driven, oil reservoir and then suction and pressure lines. Not sure if dedicated power steering pump would give enough pressure and oil volume but stop/start with electric clutch, (like on air conditioning pump),should work.
I will hunt down my capstan drive shaft used with Aeroparts capstan but I found it wobbly as square shaft inside square tube was a loose fit. I have taken and mounted capstan to forks of 3 Point Hitch frame on my tractor and drive by tractor PTO so I can pull logs out of the bush for fire wood.
