1960 series 2 cooling questions

#1 Post by pjtrover » Mon Jan 18, 2021 9:20 pm

Hello,
I was wondering if a 2a radiator will fit in a series 2 ? And is there a way to get away from the bellows type of thermostat, does the 2a thermostat tower fit a series 2 head ?
Thanks, Paul
PS great site and I'm a new member from down south on Whidbey Island

The radiator will fit but you need to use the fan shroud from the S2. The screw holes for the shroud may be different. I don't recall the specifics on the thermostat housing. I do have a used thermostat that I could test if you are in need.

There are a few differences between the series 2 2.25 engine and the series 2a including the thermostat system. Here is a really well-done article on switching a series 2a thermostat onto an earlier series 2 engine https://1960landroverrestoration.blogsp ... using.html

Hopefully this helps, regards, Rob

Thanks so much for the helpful answers. That article is great.
New 2a radiators are relatively cheap, so I may get one of those.
Now I need to see if anyone has an extra 2a thermostat tower they'd like to sell.
Thanks Again, Paul

I was warned about the cheap radiators bursting after a few years so I had mine recored at a local radiator shop. It was twice the price but i have a lot more confidence in it.
