Coolant question

#1 Post by JBirc0014 » Tue Mar 16, 2021 12:48 am

Hi all,

Just wondering what to make of this 'substance" I've found in the coolant resevoir and wondering if I can address by flushing system or do you think it requires further (professional) investigation...

Do you know what colour of coolant it had? What vehicle and engine?

Unless something else seems wrong like there is gas bubbling out of the tank when the engine is running, I would run coolant flush and then drain and refill. Note that there is a drain for the engine on the left side.

I am with Red90 flush and refill, coolant has a lifetime. If you go that route you know you have good coolant.

Actually, it looks like you likely have a “long life organic” coolant. Check out this info link:

My old plastic coolant tank had those same frayed bits of plastic on the internal seam, so that's likely normal.

There is an Orange colour coolant/anti-freeze that turns darker like that. Like mentioned above, I would drain it, give it a good flush through and see how the new coolant looks after a few weeks.

Appreciate the feedback and info. I will drain and refill this weekend. Had not considered the inner seam, on closer inspect this looks like it could be the culprit.

This guy seems to have figured out a workaround to the unfortunate placement of spill out to cross member.
