Roof rails

#1 Post by troy » Fri May 14, 2021 10:26 am

Does anyone know if there are roof rails that will fit a series rover roof that I can mount my roof tent to ? I have my rack off my 88 but really don’t want to extend it right now , if I can get some roof rails I can mount my tent in front of my rack on my 109.

Any old-school gutter-rails will work, you can often find them at garage and yard sales for about $20/set.

But if you plan to offroad with the tent mounted, try to get at least 4 cross bars so you spread the weight out. the gutter isn’t super strong. Or put a steel u-channel into the gutter before attaching the rails.

I got one set off an old Corolla that fit pretty well.

Another really wide set was from an 80s era van I believe and were for carrying an aluminum boat. I just cut the bars down to fit.

Most of the old gutter bars are “universal” so you have some leeway.

Yeah I would look on Facebook marketplace and Craigslist.

The other option is to just weld something up, or get a local shop to do it for you. They are not complicated and shouldn’t cost much more than the steel and an hour of fab time.

Good luck.
