Series 2a clutch

I will need to replace the boot around the rod that engages the clutch (not sure what it’s called). But I can tell it’s been messed with previously with the original pin removed and a bolt put in its place.

Questions:

1) should I replace this with something more original and, uh, proper? If yes, what should it be?

2) the adjustable fork that connects to this is rusted and the bolts are stuck in place. Should I replace this? And if so what should the adjustment be?

1. Yes you should replace those bolts with the proper sized clevis pins and you can get a new rubber seal for the gearbox but it’s a Royal pain to install.

2. I think your taking about the clutch slave cylinder push rod so yes you will need to free up those nuts so you can set the free play according to the manual, you have a manual right?!

My experience with replacing rubber boots with “original” (probably meaning Britpart), is that in a couple of years the new boot is worse than the 60 year old one I removed. If you could find something less original it may just last longer.

I do. Well the one I have only has the caliper measurement to the nut. This is the one, right?

I’ll order a new clevis pin. I may just order an new push rod too. Afraid the bolts may just be well rusted to be any good.
