Looking at gasket kits for my 2.25 petrol engine rebuild. What is everyone using for a head gasket; copper or composite and why? I’ve done a bit of research, but I’m interested to know what you guys use for your engine rebuilds.

Re: Copper vs Composite Head Gasket
Hi Tal,
Mike from our favorite Britanica restoration goes into this in some detail in several of his YouTube videos. I replaced my headgasket when I bought my truck due to a bent valve.... the gasket I pulled off was an original copper one, so I spent a little extra and replaced it with an identical one. Some 60 years on was enough to convince me copper/OEM was the way to go!

Re: Copper vs Composite Head Gasket
I had quite a few discussions with Cox and Turner (UK) during my engine rebuild, they are well known for their Series Engine knowledge in the UK. They have been doing this since the 70's
They recommend and sell Copper Head Gaskets for Series Petrol engines.

Re: Copper vs Composite Head Gasket
I had a different experience on my 2.25L when I rebuilt it. I used a copper head gasket and re torqued it as the manual suggests and I still had a leak at the front of the cylinder head. When I pulled the head I used a composite gasket and it’s been on there and trouble free for 11yrs now.
