There is more-than-surface rust on the pinion, though it doesn't show well in the picture...

Looks cleanable to me. I have had way worse on my old land cruiser and still drove them for 20,000+km.
Clean with a wire brush or whire wheel on an angle grinder. Or you would media blast it (walnut shell)
Will probable be alright.

Not ideal but they would likely clean up and be usable.

I would start by cleaning them up well. Tough to tell in the photos, but with the dirt, dust, oil and what appears as light surface rust showing you need to clean them up more fully to be able to confirm the condition. From what I can see, they appear serviceable, unless there is deeper pitting on them than the photos show.

Thanks lads. There is some pitting -- so more than surface rust -- and the pinion shaft isn't coming out of the outer bearing. It bent my 6t press. 😕

I will keep working on it! Might have to borrow a proper full-size press though...
