front axle 1959 Series 2 109

#1 Post by StuartC » Sun May 15, 2022 8:25 am

Before I search online parts stores for the following items thought I may check with the club members.

1. 16-5.5" rim for 7.50x16 tire (photo)....need 4....limestone colour would be a bonus.
Could use this one as a spare tire rim once it is cleaned and painted.

2. swivel pin housing and swivel pin bearing housing......require L and R.....
Left side I don't think is salvageable (see photos) especially the oil seal face.
Right side (not apart yet). I would assume by the lack of maintenance and the fact that these have been
sitting for 37 years the right side is the same as the left.

Liquid that oozed out of the front axle looked more like grey thick molasses rather than gear oil.

Photos attached.
Thanks for your help in advance.

You’ll most likely need new swivel balls but your swivel housings should be fine. That area in your photo for the swivel seal is where the metal rimmed oil seal sits so it doesn’t matter if it’s slightly pitted you can just use some sealant there, the oil seal
Portion just sweeps the chrome swivel balls.

Thanks Matt
Yes, agreed, the swivel balls are finished. Thought someone may have a couple of good ones available.
Ok, good point on the swivel seal. I will clean it up and see what I have to deal with......BUT if someone has a couple of great condition ones I will take them.
