1997 P38A Identity
Hi all. I have just bought a 97 P38A, as a parts car. It supposedly has a failed fuel pump, so upon checking the obvious, I found a special Vehicles plate on the bonnet slam panel. Anybody seen a P38A with one of these before? I have not. It seems to be just a normal 4.6L HSE, British Racing Green with 18" Mondial wheels. Also seems to be a US car as it has MPH speedo.
Changed the fuel pump on it today, easy enough as the P.O had started the lasy way. So a bit dissapointing about the floor damage, but once changed the car flashed right up. Even the dreaded EAS works good.
It has a Royal Victoria Yacht Club sticker in the windscreen, anybody know this car/history?

That badge likely indicates it is an Autobiography. I have two cars with that badge. Both have "Autobiography" on the lower tailgate. These models are supposed to have better paint, leather and interior trim. On mine the transmission tunnel sides are leather instead of plastic. I think the door panels may also have more leather.

Think I have Discovered it to be a Kensington Edition, Upgraded interior seems to be the only difference.

Mine has the same badge. I’m not aware that it indicates anything much. I don’t think LR exported any of the base model P38’s to NA, so the badge might be on all NAS spec P38’s. It pretty much looks identical to mine. Nice find!
You said you bought it as a parts car. I hope you don’t part it, it’s a beautiful car. Also I hope you keep the EAS. It will surely need some work but the EAS is such a great system. There’s a good reason why LR continued to use air suspension. New Dunlop air springs are half the price of coils anyway. I’m 63 and have had quite a number of vehicles in my time. My P38 is my favourite of all of them.

No worries Harv, this beauty will be back on the road. I also am a fan of air springs, P38A's are never the same on coils. It's not even a complicated system to repair.
If yours also has the "Special Vehicle" plate, it is also a 'Not your average P38A" They were taken off a mass production line and modified. It was fairly common for Defenders, lots of utility 110's and 130's were done for UK. Seen a few XD Disco's with this plate also. I am sure that mine is a Kensington Edition, I think around 600 were made in 97, so not exactly rare. Still a piece of history.
