Hi,
I am a Landrover Technician at MCL Motor Cars Downtown. The vehicles can have a varity of problems. Apart from the odd problem here and there, the big dollar ones are:
- engine oil leaks from headgaskets and/or rear main engine seal. $1500-2500
- ABS modulator - about $300 electrical switch or $4000 valve stuck
- ABS wheel speed sensors,
- Brakes, rotors and pads both axles ~ $ 1200
- door latches ~ $ 400
I am probably forgetting a number of things.
My recommendation is to have it fully inspected prior to purchase by a qualified repair center.
Later,
Don

I have a 99 Discovery II. Before I purchased it, I don't think it had a very well cared for life. I have used it for about 80,000 KM town, highway and heavy off-road as well. It's cost us an avarage of $150 per month in repairs and maintenance over the past 2 years, however I think we were catching up with some repairs that should have been done by the previous owner.
I don't think the vehicle is particularly prone to problems, however, like Don says, get it inspected before you buy...
