Should just be a allen head or similar bolt holding it in place. I replaced mine with the halleffect sensor from a Disco so that I could run a VDO electronic speedo last spring.

Andrew,
Do you mean that the alan key is inset and is like a set screw? I'll go look at this again.

Now I think of it there might be a nut on a stud. Any way on the top side of where it fits into the LT230 there should be a nut or bolt/screw of some sort that is holding a retaining horseshoe like thing. Take that off and the cable and then the inner gear should just pull out unless I'm forgetting something. I'm suprised no one else has spoken up.

Does look like it should just pull out. Wonder what retains it under bouncey conditions. Thanks for your help. I'll try to lever it out tomorrow.

There is a fork shaped piece of steel that holds the cable housing onto the t. case. The nut and stud bolts the fork down.

Red90,
It is the housing, or 'sending' unit that the cable connects to that I need to remove. It is inset into the LT230 case.

What are you trying to achieve??
You remove the fork and then the cable can be pulled away. You can then reach in and pull out the speedometer drive assembly from within the transfer case. See the first page of the document that Andrew linked to. There is an exploded view on page 37-7.

Object of exercise is to move the speedometer drive assembly from one LT230 to another without drive assy. This looks like it is pressed into possition (pg 37-16 Anderew's link) and on my donor does not want to budge. May be time to order a new one.
Appreciate your comments.

It is described right on page 1. It should come out with a bit of prying. People replace them insitu all the time.
