Do NOT under any circumstances used the U shaped things on the frame. There are trasnportation tie downs only.
Typically people use a hitch in the rear and an aftermarket bumper in the front that has recovery points built in.

Go to the wreckers, (A-Combined in Abbotsford, ProTruck in Abbotsford, or Coast Import Parts, Mitchell Island if you can't find one with Rovers up there) and find a Discovery II. It has a nice U-shaped bracket that mounts over top of the bumper, directly onto the frame. The bottom of this bracket is for mounting the stock Land Rover bush bar or A-frame. You can then bolt in Warn or Lordco store brand hooks to these points. I gave mine to Andrew (Nakedbarra) when I put a new bumper on the truck, and they fit on his Range Rover classic, so they would fit no problem on the Disco I. Andrew, got a camera? Post a pic of what we did on yours...

They work a pretty well, We shortend the bolt slot to just the size for the hook bolt holes and the brush bar needed a small trim on the bottom but that will be obvious when you try to fit. The bolt holes for the chassis mount is the same as well.
