I'm shopping for a Defender having only basic mechanical apptitude and no experience with these vehicles I don't really know what to look for. The ones I have looked at are ex-Canadian army years 85 86 87, 110's cosmetically beaten to sh1+ but seem to run well, all around the $5g mark. I plan on restoring her but want to get it on the road first.
1st question Deisel or petrol I would prefer diesel but will it start in winter in Alberta? What about power and maintenance?
2nd getting it road legal and registered.
I have heard the sugar coated version from a salesman and know the basics like mirrors, horn, seat belts etc but anything else you may know? and is right hand drive a major issue?
3rd I have some old disco alloy 16" rims i have seen these on other Defenders can I put these bad boys on the bolt pattern seems to match but they are vastly different to the current baby carriage wheels on these Defenders
4th anything else you can think of that may help is greatly appreciated Thanks for your help: Jonathon
