Disco 1 - Power Steering box leak

#1 Post by U-Disco » Tue Oct 05, 2010 7:51 pm

Hi guys,

I've got a power steering box which is leaking badly from the sector shaft seal. Admittedly I don't have much experience with LR's. Is it recommended to get these boxes rebuilt or is it just better to find a non leaking one?

To be honest with you I'm kind of surprised at how badly it is leaking considering that my vehicle is 98 with low km's...

Power steering seals

Hi,
I would recommend fixing the seals, if you buy another box you will just be buying old seals and looking at another leak down the road.
If your original seals lasted 12 years then new seals should see you to about 2022!

Check out one of the local Land Rover Techs on the supporters tab above, might not be as expensive as you would think!

Good luck,
Andy

I'm new to Land Rovers, & have found that E-Bay UK is great for parts.
Lower P/S seal kit is 6 pounds Sterling & 3 pounds Sterling shipping,
about $16.00 CDN.
