Was at the Reveal Event for the new Range.....

#1 Post by Russ » Thu Nov 22, 2012 7:36 pm

Man did they do a nice job this time around. Wading depth is increased to 900mm from 700mm because the intakes are not through the "gills" anymore. They've come up with this system that runs through the front fender and is rubber-sealed. Hard to explain, but pop by the dealership once they get to stores and I can show you what I mean. Wheel travel is up, clearance is up, weight is way down, centre of gravity down. I'm pretty impressed to say the least. Pics below.......

Angle of attack and angle of departure look woefully inadequate. I'll stop by and have a look in person, but so far it looks like a glorified station wagon.

It's sitting at access height. Suspension raises. See here for Departure and Approach angles: http://www.landrover.com/ca/en/lr/all-n ... ercharged/

You'll need to click on "Dimensions and Capability" which is on the left side of the web page.

It looks very cool. Very well equipped, and tastefully trimmed. But I have a feeling it it would be less than useless off road. Looks like way to concepty to be any good in the bush.

Well, have a look at the suspension statistics for travel, the numbers on how rigid the Alluminum frame is, the low end torque of the supercharged, the lock in the t-case (and that it still has a t-case), the traction system, the exceptionally low centre of gravity, and the locker in the rear diff.... To name a few. Also you should check out the cool air induction system to keep water out.

Remember, even as a new vehicle that sell to mostly people that don't use it in North America it is still used as intended overseas. They all have to have a minimum approach, departure, and breakover angle, ford at least 500mm of water (most do 700+), and traverse at 37 degrees.

As much as someone would not want to scratch a truck that expensive, with some mud tires it would out-wheel just about anything out there as a stock vehicle.... Maybe even a 110? lol

As much as I can respect that, there is no replacement for solid axles. Independent is good for on road, but lacks off. Not to mention that the wheelbase is way to long, and the tires are low profile which don't help off road.

I don't argue the solid axles, but technology and ride modules allow independent suspension to reach and compress as you would hope (have a look at the video from the wheels event you guys put on and watch the LR4).

Tires can be changed.

Size you are right about though. I'm a Jeep driver so I know the value (and detriment) of a smaller wheelbase. Personally I'm an LR4 fan, but even that is pretty big. That said, you 110 drivers are pretty long just like the 4 door Jeep JK's that are out.

For as big of a tank as it is, I'm sure it'll surpass my expectations. I personally like the looks of it, but I don't think it'd make it on any of the hardcore trails. Speaking of which, what are you planning on bringing to the toy run tomorrow?

I'll have my dogs with me so taking a new Rover wasn't an option. I'll have my TJ on 36's.

Going to wear my Land Rover of Richmond coat so hoping it will be easier to bump into a few of you guys.
