June 7th and 8th - 12th Annual Cowichan Rally in the Valley
June 7th and 8th - 12th Annual Cowichan Rally in the Valley Land Rover weekend
Come on out to the Sutfins Farm, located 4 miles north of Duncan just off the Island highway and close to amenities. Rover-Landers are welcome to camp out in the fields on Friday and Saturday nights. There will be two Island runs, one on Saturday (scenic, possible scratch) and one on Sunday (off-road, likely scratchy).
This is the 12th LR Rally in the Valley, don't miss it, hoping to see a good turn out for 2014.
Family friendly, great social event. Even if you don't want to go on the runs, come on out for Saturday afternoon and evening, kick some tyres, mingle and talk Land Rovers ...
Mark it on your calendar, Hope to see you there ......

Re: June 7th and 8th - 12th Annual Cowichan Rally in the Val
I'm not entirely sure the Saturday drive will be scratch free. Following the style from last year, we are only planning on one big drive Saturday arriving back about dinner time. Last year there were no plans for a pot-luck dinner, but it happened anyway. This year? Who knows? I'm sure Erica will have something planned in the way of a pot-luck regardless! After dinner, socializing around the fire pit. Sunday, maybe another off-road trip to get the ferry catchers to Nanaimo the same as we did last year.

Hi guys,
Would it be possible to get some idea of the plan for the two day event. I may only be available Saturday evening and would like to know if I should join the group Saturday evening or Sunday morning. One question I have is: will there be off-roading on Sunday? Or Saturday night?

Cut and pasted from the link above>mylrd90 wrote:...Would it be possible to get some idea of the plan for the two day event.
...Times for various events are as follows: Wait a minute, there are no "various events". There is only one event, and that's an all day off-road drive. We start with a drivers meeting at 0900 and will be gone till late afternoon so bring a lunch, drinks and snacks. The plan is to be back in time for supper at 6 PM. An evening bonfire and socializing is expected. This year there is no plan for anything on Sunday. There was no plan for anything on Sunday last year either but we still managed an off road trip to get the main-landers to the ferry. It turned out to be a good day of off-roading. This year, who knows? ...
So I would say "Show up for Saturday evening, possibly for dinner and definitely for the 'round the campfire socializing; bring a chair. Last year the hardy ones turned in about 1 AM."
Read at the link in the post above and you should have all the details. There is a good chance of a drive Sunday but nothing is certain. On Sunday last year we did an unplanned five hour drive to Ladysmith, all off road.

Re: June 7th and 8th - 12th Annual Cowichan Rally in the Val
Hi Guys
Just doing an update for the upcoming rally.
Greg and I have finished a very long and intensive pre-scouting trip to make sure the roads are all open for our 12 annual Cowichan Valley Rover Rally drive. The Saturday drive this year will be great, some old and some new. We do promise a really spectacular lunch spot with the best views of Vancouver, Chemanius and Ladysmith I have ever seen in all my exploring on the Island. This for now secret location will be the official lunch stop. This time we are going to eat together on time and with correct british manners so please wait till we all get there and set up the tables and linens after all we are not J*$P drivers. (No offence to the J*$P drivers who are always very welcome and just may be tagging along at the back of the pack behind the diesel rovers)
Your rover will be really ready for a break after a first gear low range (even for V-8s) insane steep grunt up a very long but surprisingly good condition logging road.
The drive will be scratchy but there should be no denting happening unless you are a downright bad driver.
The always tasty pot luck dinner will be back at the farm around 5-6 pm. Bring enough chow for 5 or maybe 6 other Rover drivers and remember the guys driving the old Rovers with no power steering, power brakes or air conditioning will be a lot hungery than the guys driving the newer more civilized Rovers.
See you at the farm Saturday morning 9:00am sharp for the drivers meeting. Remember full tank of petrol or diesel, lawn chairs, radio, lunch and a good attitude

Sounds great I'll bring my tweed suit for the Saturday run. I will be coming up Friday evening to camp out and be ready for the Saturday drive. The family will be heading up in the LR3 Saturday evening for potluck/camping then join in the potential Sunday run.

Hi guys,
Looks like I'll be joining you for the Saturday run after all. Sounds too good to miss.
I have a few questions:
q1: is it easy to find Sutfins Farm? Is there an address that I can GPS?
q2: will there be grill available to cook on at supper time? Or de we bring cold food only for the pot luck?
Ron P.

I'd love to be joining in - but once again it falls right on the same day as a young nephew's birthday...
Have fun!

Hey Oliver we have not heard from you yet, are you and your family coming? If you are can you bring my Canol road tape with you? Seems to me you borrowed it about this time last year at the rally. Late fees will be waived if it is returned this weekend in good condition.
See you Saturday

Re: June 7th and 8th - 12th Annual Cowichan Rally in the Val
Hi Guys
Greg and I have finished the final clean up for the 12th Annual Rover weekend, everything is looking real good. Lawn cut, fire wood stacked, power and water cords and hoses run, teater- totter repaired. We even had a new to us D-90 show up a whole day early they will be back for the Friday night campfire. Seems like a fair few folks are arriving Friday evening.
Remember this will be the last bush drive we may be able do until the fall rains come as the woods will get closed very soon due to the fire hazard getting into the red zone. So if you want to get out into the forest now is the time.. The rest of the summer events will most likely be British car shows and coffee meets.
See you this weekend.

Hey Reza, I guess your little fella is not so little anymore. I recall that he had an uncanny recollection of Land-Rover trivia, is he still an enthusiast? See you all Saturday morning. :spinning:
