June 14 & 15th - Hedley Mine Exploring and Ashnola Traverse

#1 Post by DaveB » Sun Jun 08, 2014 9:51 pm

The Okanagan Rover-Landers invite you to join them on their June Run – Hedley Mines & Ashnola Traverse

Please let us know if you plan on coming on this Run so we can expect you!
As always let us know if you are going to be a tad late, otherwise we won't wait for you!

This Run is family & dog friendly.
• Note: Check yourselves, kids & dogs for possible wood ticks at the end of each day.

Date: June 14th & 15th, 2014

Meeting Location: 11:00 am bottom of the Hedley-Nickel Plate Road (Corkscrew Road) Hwy 3 between Keremeos & Hedley.
49.337037° -120.054329°
*** Please make sure you are fueled up before arriving to the meeting spot!!
Closest fuel locations: Keremeos & Hedley

Departure Time: 11: 30 am sharp!!

Bring: Camping gear, food, snacks, water, flashlight, camera and... as always, your sense of adventure!!
Bring bug goo as it might be buggy (mossies) in the trees if the sun is out.
Lead Rover will have winch, recovery equipment, chainsaw & maps.

Expect: Saturday easy; Sunday moderate +
Rock shelves going into Placer Lake
BC pin-striping? - hopefully not or not too bad
Possible mud and maybe lingering snow in the higher shadows.

What to see & do:
Saturday: Explore abandoned mines & mining paraphernalia east side of Corkscrew Road
Sunday: Ashnola Traverse to Placer Mtn to Placer Lake & out to Hwy 3.

Camping: We plan to camp Friday & Saturday night along the Ashnola River going in at Keremeos over the Red Bridge.
Take our chances at which site we can snag first on Friday night.
Choices: Red Bridge, Tunnel Mtn, Horseshoe Canyon or lastly Buckhorn.
Buckhorn unfortunately has been ripped up with quad camps.
Expect to pay about $12/night at any of these sites.
The trailhead for the Ashnola Traverse on Sunday is past Buckhorn.

Forecast: Not sure. Could be sunny, could be rainy, could be overcast. Guess we'll see!
Come prepared!

Dave's cell on the day: 778.212.1489

Please don't hesitate to call or e-mail us if you have any questions.

cheers,
