Ghost Pass Lake - August 22nd & 23rd
Hi All,
The August Club Run will be into the area just west of Manning Park. We turn off highway #5 just north of Hope. We plan to explore the new logging roads that have been pushed out to the west side of Manning and now reach the remote Ghost Pass Lake area.
We haven't been out into this area with the club before, so its mainly unexplored. Difficult to estimate what the road conditions will be like. The positive is the logging roads are fairly new so hopefully in good condition. Its possible that some roads could be overgrown so possible BC pin striping!
What - Two day off-road run into the mountains just north-east of Hope. (a one day run is possible if you don't want to camp out, but it will make a long day of driving.
Where - The remote Ghost Pass Lake West of Manning Park.
When - Saturday 22nd & Sunday 23rd August 2015 - Meeting Saturday morning at Tim Horton's at Whatcom Road off highway #1 at 9.00am, departing at 9.30am sharp.
Why - To explore the great outdoors, discover new wonders, fresh mountain air!
What Else - This is BC wilderness, bring along everything you need for your time in the mountains. The last fuel in in Hope, if you fill up at Whatcom road that will be plenty of fuel for the trip.
Let us know if you have any questions? Let us know if you are coming along?
Cheers,
Andy

Thinking of camping the Friday night. Can anyone recommend a spot en-route?

Looks like we'll be able to join you on this trip. We (Matt, Stacey, Henry, George) will be camping at silver lake Friday night and meet up with the group on Saturday morning somewhere near Hope I guess. I'll have my VHF tuned in so I should be able to pick you up when your nearby. I would say you'll be near hope around 10:30am is there a good meeting point anyone can suggest?

Matt,
We can meet you at the exit 192 (Sowaqua creek Road exit) off highway #5. This is about 15km past (north) of Hope.
We will be there at 11am on Saturday morning.
Eric & Sue,
Silver Creek (just south of Hope) is a good spot if you are looking for an actual organized campsite; http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/bcparks/explor ... silver_lk/
If you prefer something a bit more rustic, I would suggest getting to exit 192 Sowaqua Creek exit and just looking up the Forest service road a bit. It follows the river & valley, so should have a few nice spots along there. Then come back to the exit 192 to meet the group for 11am on saturday morning.
Cheers,
Andy

Eric and Sue - We're trying for the silver creek/lake campground. It has 25 sites, no reservations and costs $18/night. We will be there Friday afternoon if you wanted we could claim a site for you as well?BuckBlue90 wrote:Thinking of camping the Friday night. Can anyone recommend a spot en-route?

Missed the 1 ferry so we won't be at the campsite until 5:30. Grab us a spot please! We'll have to move cocktail hour to the evening :D

Re: Ghost Past Lake - August 22nd & 23rd
Post Trip Report....
Six Land Rovers ventured down the Sowaqua Valley in search of the mystical Ghost Pass Lake, rumoured to be nestled high in the mountains between Mount Ford and Mount Dewdney, just west of Manning Park. Progress was good, the sun was warm and hopes were high ...
There are new logging roads that had been pushed deep into the valley and hopes were that we could now drive within a few hundred meters of the lake. The new roads had been carved high into the mountain sides and we had some fantastic views down the valley. The road was getting smaller and higher by the minute and we had to scout out a couple of dead-ends before we were confident that we had found a trail to the lake. A beautiful 20min walk through old growth forest when suddenly we popped out of the trees at a large but tranquil lake... we had found it... the rarely visited, the wonderful Ghost Pass Lake!
Another great trip, an awesome group of Rover-Landers and a great adventure... (including the collapsed bridge and eventful bypass!)
Cheers, Andy

Fantastic trip. Thanks to all. :D :D
Andy, nice lake pics. I left my camera in the car for the hike, so I need lake pics.
