Possible Island Drive either Oct 24 or 25th

#1 Post by island dormy » Sun Oct 18, 2015 7:02 pm

Hi Guys

Since the last drive was so much fun (except for the weather) Rob and I thought we should try for another drive this coming weekend.
We propose to meet at the Red Rooster Cafe (Mount sicker Road and #1 highway beside Russels farm market near Chemanus)
Come at 8:00 am or so if you want breakfast first. We will leave at 9:00 sharp for the drive probably up Copper canyon to Holyoak Lake.

We can either do Saturday the 24th or Sunday the 25th of October. Speak up (sooner is better than later) for the date which works best for you. (However we may just go on the day with the best weather forcast.)

Keep checking this web site for the update on Thursday evening as to which date we have decided on.

Bring the usual supplies including lunch, lawn chairs , radio, shovel, ropes, coffee, spare parts and somebody to help push if you get stuck. Hopefully we will be back on pavement by 4:00 pm or so.

Just a gentle reminder here hopefully stated as politely as I can........... These Rover Lander drives are family friendly and very often we have kids coming along. So please in order to keep everyone and their cherished rovers safe from unnecessary harm do not bring anything in your lunch kit that you could not eat drink or smoke in front of your friendly nieghbouhood Justice of the peace.

So whos coming?

If you can make it Sunday, October 25th you can count me in. My 11 year-old son will be thrilled to come along.

I just talked with Dave F who was on the last drive he is good for Saturday with his two sons.
I kind of think Saturday may work better for me also.

Given the low numbers can I assume it's off?

Hi Andrew

I think we are still planning to go for one last drive this year.

It kind of looks like Sunday will be the day for the drive as it has more votes right now. Not many rovers coming which is kind of dissapointing, (the next drive after this one will be next year.)

So lets say Sunday it is. Meet at the Red Rooster cafe at 8:00am if you want Breakfast first and if not be there ready to go before 9:00am.

Any chance one of the Defender guys coming on the trip has a spare rubber hub cap? I lost one off of my 110 last night somewhere and don't have a spare... doh.

Hi Everyone

Well the drive went ahead kind of as planned. Only two rovers this time, we made it about 5 minutes on the gravel road to our destination before the first defender stripped a rear drive flange. We turned around and headed back to his shop before it got worse, On the way home the second defender started having fuel delivery problems. Both rovers made it home but very slowly.

We spent the entire afternoon working on both rovers in Robs very nicely equipped shop so not a bad day after all.

Well my mechanic came around today and had a quick look at my LR. He thinks it is the turbo, the fan is a little rough when spinning it and the waste gate is stuck, so will take it off in the next few days and see.

Thank you to rob for the use of your shop and hospitality, as well as for your help Victor, hope the screem train went well.

Hi Oliver

Glad you found your problem. I think your number one son mentioned that he could not hear the Turbo winding up in the odd moments when the engine did work half properly.

The ghost train at the Forest museum is great, I think the best it has ever been, you should check it out if you get a chance it is well worth it. It runs every night this week ending at 9:00pm Friday evening. I think Rob and Lisa are coming Friday.

Talk with you later.
