Galvanizing and Acid dipping on vancouver island?

#1 Post by RamblerRob » Mon Feb 22, 2016 10:58 am

Does anyone know if there are any facilities on vancouver island that do galvanizing or acid dipping? I'd rather not add the 200$ or so it costs me each time i go to vancouver.

Alternately if anyone is planning to get something done I'd be interested in piggybacking my sideframes/T-posts in and splitting the costs

I have no idea where you live on the Island but Victoria Plating (Victoria ) does chroming and they do a very nice job of it. They maybe able to help you out. They are near downtown.

Yeah that seems to be the case. I wonder about acid dipping.. I can't see how else to be sure I get at all the surface rust and original paint inside my t post sections

The galvanizers do the acid baths and others prior to the zinc. It is a multi stage process.

John,
Slight caveat, and for anyone else considering Silver City.
True, they do acid dip as part of the metal preparation process.
But they require all parts to be stripped before they will handle them.
Also (eg a chassis) its up to the owner to ensure that they have removed as much crud from the inside. You cannot rely on the acid dip remove and drain all this stuff and the galvanizing will not be metal to metal effective.
Vigorous hammering and flushing with water is a good precaution.
Eric.
