Ok, so I'm no electrical genius but I can usually get by. Recently noticed ,likely because of the time change, that the headlights on my 92 RRC are really dim. Also the headlights go dimmer when the brake lights are on. The truck has been messed with a lot over its lifetime, did a frame off restoration/mods about 4 years ago and most things are working well. I don't recall what the lights were like before the V8 got tossed. I have not looked in to the cause much yet, but I'm hoping some one can point me where to start. Battery and altenator are new, charges at 14ish volts etc. I was going to check the light grounds for starters. Anyone else got any suggestions?
Thanks,
Pat

Re: RRC dim headlights
I installed relays to provide power directly from the battery to the headlights, this along with larger gauge positive and ground wires resulted in much better headlight performance in my RRC. To top it off I also installed Hella headlights.

I had thought about doing that as well, might go that route if I can't find a smoking gun within a half an hour!

Hi Pat
I would start by checking your grounds. When something that is not connected (ie. brake lights and headlights) it can often as not be ground issues. I have found in the past that when rewiring I run a ground not only to the frame or body metal but also all the way back to the engine to frame ground strap.
Check all your ground points by removing the fastener and clean all the contact surfaces. If the grounds are not the problem, wire in relays to avoid the heavy current draw of the headlights thru the steering column switch.
Hope this helps
