Hi James,

Nice job you did of making the swing-out tyre holder. Seems to work well.

For anyone wondering why not keep the spare tyre in its factory storage area (left hand rear cargo area) the problem starts when you change your tyres to bigger than stock size (mine are 235-85-16 BFG Mud Terrain)
with this size there is no way it will fit in the factory made location.
So the choices are,
1. Do away with the parcel shelf & sides & strap the larger tyre down somehow in the back.
2. Buy a roof rack & throw the spare up there.
3. Fabricate / buy a swing out tyre holder for the back (has to work with the tailgate & swing up glass doortop)
4. Can you put it on the bonnet (hood)? Not sure? Has anyone done this?
5. Any other ideas???

James, couple of questions. What size is the tyre in your photos? It seems to partly cover the licence plate & restrict rear visability through the window? How do you find it?

I manufactured a rear bar / step for my truck in Ausse and had to move the licence plate to one side of the tail gate ,quite a simple relocation and an currently in the middle of makeing one for my 1993 Rangie here in Canada using a stub axle and bearings for the pivot on the spare tyre rack.

When I get the bearing swing arm done I'll post pics .
yesterday I had the strugle of getting the none bearing swing arm off my old truck here in Ausse(one of my friends now owns it)and he has not touched the truck in a couple of years and it was made like yours and it had almost welded its self in with rust but when I made it I never thought it not get used regularly but it should be fine if it is used regulary and lubricated.
