Range Rover Classic Cubby Box

#1 Post by rayhyland » Sun Dec 03, 2017 4:28 pm

Hi everyone,

does anyone know of anyone or any company that has produced replica/replacement or upgraded cubby boxes for the RRC?

Mine (1988) is falling apart. The design is terrible, plastic that gets brittle over time, no cup holders, and a floppy lid designed to snap off if not treated with kid gloves.

I'm thinking it wouldn't be that hard to make a simple box similar to the Defender ones, out of aluminum or wood and wrapped in leather of vinyl (or even coated in colour-matched Line-X).

If nothing is commercially available, I may try to make something out of steel or aluminum.

Any suggestions welcome.

Cheers

Ray

I've looked as well but never found a supplier, not as much support for aftermarket interior parts for these trucks. If you do find one please let everyone else know!

There was a fellow who posted a few years ago on RR.net about building cubbies to spec. He got a lot of interest, and posted a bunch of photos of plywood-based cubby construction. Ultimately he seems to have disappeared.

Anyhow, I'd be interested in the same thing. I'm happy to help out. It might be easy to make an oven-formed acrylic base, then wrap vinyl around it to make it look the part.

I was leaning towards metal, painted to match the original color, and reusing the original lid.

It would be nice to have something there we didn't have to worry about breaking every time we used it. I have been noodling with 4mm plywood and stitch/glue epoxy. if I figure it out, you all will be the first to know.

My German Shepherd decided to stand on mine, so the need for a replacement has been accelerated. :-)

There was a company in Australia that was making aluminum ones for a time. I search but I could not find them. Perhaps you will have better success.
